This self gratitude letter is a great way to ring in the New Year fresh, relaxed and at peace with yourself. I highly recommend doing something like this in lieu of a New Year’s resolution OR before you make your resolution. You can do this on your own, or share the process with your partner or friends.
The whole purpose of this exercise is to connect to the part of yourself that is available at ALL times acting as a guide for your balance, success and health. By following through, you get into the habit of diving into your own power and learning how to use it to your advantage.
Below I have given you one of my letters to use as a template. You are more than welcome to use this as your own, just be sure to make changes to the wording so that it feels right to you. Or if it feels more true, you can also design something entirely on your own.
2015 can be the year of lasting happiness and balance for you and your relationships. This exercise is the first step towards achieving that. So even if you approach this with skepticism, that’s OK. This is an exercise in vulnerability. The only thing you have to lose is tension and the gift to gain is connectedness towards yourself and each other.
Have fun. Make this something you want to do rather than “have” to do. Play, be silly, the worst thing that can happen is that you feel amazing ushering in 2015!
Dear Self,
I want to say thank you for everything you have done for me this past year. Without you, I would never have become all that I am and for that I am deeply grateful.
Thank you for weathering my ungraceful moments without quitting on me. Thank you for pushing me through my narrow thought spaces and fostering my expansion. Thank you for introducing me to extraordinary people, circumstances and possibilities that I never could have explored without your loving challenge. Thank you for caring enough to pay attention to me when I was feeling alone and lost in my negative story. Thank you for your guidance when I was lacking direction and immersed in my confusion. And thank you, most of all, for the love you provided in the face of my pain this year.
I may not have said thank you for your efforts, in fact I know I did not acknowledge you during those moments. But right now, at this moment, I want you to know how deeply grateful I am for your presence. And as I step into the New Year, I do it with the renewed awareness that I am never alone, that you will always be there guiding, nurturing and loving me into my true self. And because of this, I know that I can, and I will, do even more remarkable things this year.
Happy New Year with Love,
Me
